BMW iX1 Price in Nepal Increases by Rs. 1.30 Crore Following New EV Tax Policy

The price of the BMW iX1 eDrive20 in Nepal has increased significantly following the implementation of the government's revised electric vehicle (EV) taxation policy introduced through the fiscal year 2083/84 budget.

According to Laxmi Premium Motors, the official distributor of BMW vehicles in Nepal, the BMW iX1 eDrive20 now carries a price tag of Rs. 3,29,96,000, up from its previous price of Rs. 1,99,96,000. This marks a price increase of Rs. 1.30 crore.

The revision comes after the government introduced a new taxation framework for electric vehicles, under which taxes are now calculated primarily based on a vehicle's import value rather than motor output.

The policy change has had a particularly strong impact on premium and luxury EVs, resulting in substantial price increases across the segment.

The BMW iX1 is powered by a 64.78 kWh battery pack and offers a WLTP-certified driving range of between 430 km and 475 km on a full charge.

It features BMW's fifth-generation eDrive technology, producing 150 kW of power and 250 Nm of torque. The fully electric SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 170 km/h.

The distributor has also revised prices for other BMW electric models sold in Nepal, with the extent of the increase varying depending on the model and its import value.

Industry observers say the new tax structure has reshaped the pricing of high-end electric vehicles in Nepal, making premium EVs considerably more expensive than before.

The BMW iX1's latest price revision is among the most notable examples of the impact of the government's new EV taxation policy.
